Gen Con Indy 2012: No Game Left Behind

The Best Four Days in Gaming Have Arrived!

Gen Con Is Here!

After months of hard work and planning, it is Gen Con’s great pleasure to be back in Indianapolis to host this weekend’s 45th Anniversary show, Gen Con Indy 2012! The team hopes to see you here at the Indiana Convention Center for the show's 10th Anniversary in Indianapolis.

If you are still interested in attending but have yet to make preparations, badges are still available through online purchase at registration.gencon.com and also on-site at the convention center. Those that already have purchased their badges may begin picking them up today via on-site Will Call, which will remain open all night on Wednesday, so if you arrive late, you may still receive your Gen Con badge on-site on Wednesday evening/Thursday morning.

Those that have read Gen Con’s past newsletters will know the vast number of things happening at the show. In addition to more than 8,500 gaming events, the show will feature media guests, seminars, live music, crafting, dance entertainment, the largest True Dungeon event in the show’s history, an art show, the debut of Star Trek Catan, the inaugural World Magic Cup, Wizards of the Coast’s first-ever Gen Con keynote speech for Dungeons & Dragons, Gen Con’s first official beer tapping, a film festival, anime, author seminars and book signings, and much, much more.

If you plan to attend the show with children and have yet to purchase badges, Sunday’s Family Fun Day events are the perfect opportunity for your whole family to partake in the Gen Con experience at the low price of $30 for a family of four. Sunday will feature many kid-centric events such as face-painting, learn-to-play gaming, and more!

Thanks go out to all of amazing attendees, exhibitors, sponsors and volunteers for making each Gen Con a special, unique, unforgettable event. The Gen Con team cannot wait to see you this year.

Lesser-known Aztec gods and goddesses

MACUILTONALEQUE
Also known as AHUIATETEO, MAQUILTONALEQUE, MACUIL-TONALEQUE

'Macuil' means five. These are five Gods of Pleasure and Excess, and the dangers resulting therefrom.

Their wagging fingers of reprimand show that drinking, gambling, sex and other pleasures should not be taken to extremes. It is for your own good — too much endulgence and you might end up looking like one of the hunchback dwarfish MACUILTONALEQUE.

We think you are allowed up to five cups of PULQUE — but who measures the size of the cup?

These five Gods were also invoked by diviners and mystics. Five Gods = five fingers, and with a little hand-waving all the future could be laid bare.

They are all good Southern Gods and their names are MACUILCOZCACUAHTLI, MACUILCUETZPALIN, MACUILMALINALLI, MACUILTOCHTLI and MACUILXOCHITL.

Medieval Demographics Made Easy: Numbers For Fantasy Worlds

How to Make Your Own Dice Tower From Formboard

I love dice towers. Remind me someday to tell you how I earned a Boy Scout badge by making a dice tower out of a 2 litre milk carton.Eric Gosselin shared this great tutorial:
"I made mine from cardboard, it's a fun project and the result is fun to use. :) "

NPC Factions (Or how to be a lazy DM)

This short blog post advocates a technique I also use in my games: factions.
"The vast majority of the two hours of prep work I have done recently was statting up a few different groups that the PCs have been interacting with.
"I first come up with the leaders of the group and write a sentence or two describing their personalities and motivations.
"Then I stat up a sample member of the group, a tough member of the group, and make a few notes about different weapons or armor that I can use to make members of the group seem unique."
